I've been playing volleyball for about 30 years and during that time I co-founded the volleyball club at Aberystwyth University, co-founded the Welsh Open Volleyball Tournament and became a grade IV National Referee and Level I National Coach.

Welsh Volleyball Scene
After many years of not having a governing body, a national team or a national league, in early Volleyball Wales was formed. Although it is the new governing body for volleyball in Wales, at this time it is still very new and operating as an informal association.
The 4th Cardiff Open Volleyball Tournament will be on the 3rd & 4th of September 2011
The 2008 Welsh Open Volleyball Tournament was on the the 16th & 17th of February
New Rules
For those that haven't played volleyball since the last century, the new rules suggest that the new game is going to be very different.
- Only one attempt at service.
- The ball can touch the net on service.
- Any part of the body can be used to 'hit' the ball - that's right, you can even kick it!
- A set is played to 25 points with rally scoring and the winner needing 2 clear points.
- The server can serve from anywhere along the back line and does not take part in the starting rotation.
New New Rules: 2009-2011
- Can now have 2 liberos per team
- Most, BUT NOT ALL net touches are no longer faults
On a personal note, I believe the easing of net touch rules will lead to attacking players and blockers jumping further into their opponents court thus leading to significantly more ankle injuries.
New Improved New Rules: 2011-2012
- Minor changes, mostly about re-assigning liboros when players are injured
- ...... the details can be found on the FIVB web site.
Despite all these changes, in practice, the structure of the game is very much as it was.
